Paul Jensen , just got back from a trip down to San Francisco for a small HWS class… ” We built two small fish, one big fish and a couple of longboards…
Our shop space was great, an i-Pad case factory with a lot of room to move…Nice……
I shuffled the class hours a bit…The first three days were 9AM to 5PM…The final two days were from 2PM to 10PM…The late start gave a feeling of having a at least a half day off…I surfed, others went into work…I’ll do that again…
The workshop participants were all very keen, had heaps of skills and great life experiences to share during our long hours together…We all had a lot of laughs and everyone went home with boards ready to glass…”
If this is what you would like to do get hold of Paul and organise a class for yourself and a few friends.
In Auckland Mike Grobelny has been hard at it gluing up blanks to process using his unique milling and shaping methods to be able to bring some of his boards for the Wooden Board Day in a couple of weeks.
Up North , Roger Hall is flat out selecting timbers , gluing and chambering
Just some of the machining and preparation that goes into it.Hours of work before
This is Johnny’s Kahikatea Twin Keel Fish, getting glassed at Surfline at the moment,
The inside scoop supplied by good mate Mike Cunningham who will be bringing a few of his hand planes and maybe a belly board.I haven’t heard from Bobby Crisp if he is coming as yet . A be rap for the Kiwi boys who love to come over and slide a few warm winter waves as well. It is not that easy jumping on a plane with board bags full of wooden boards. Thanks guys for your support and the great effort that goes into it.We look forward to catching up and checking out your latest creations.

I have just received this update on the wooden board building course at Mt .Eliza in Victoria which was organised by Robert Ivers.
” The Labour Day Long Weekend in Victoria was the date for the first Two, Tree 2 Sea Workshops in Australia, they were held in my workshop in Mt.Eliza Victoria.
Participants came from as far a field as South Australia,The Gold Coast, Byron Bay and Lakes Entrance.”
” Rich Blundell an original founder of Grain Surfboards in the USA and most recently from treetosea.org was the instructor and mastermind behind the workshops, he travelled from the United Kingdom, where he had just completed Workshops in Wales.”
” His knowledge and ideas about wooden board building is amazing. Using his specially developed system which allows a wooden surfboard to be built to the final sanding stage in two days, 9 beautiful wooden boards were created and have travelled to their new home with their creators to be sanded and glassed. Everybody had a great time and we all made some new friends. The boards ranged in size from a 4`6” Paipo to a 9′ Malibu with the fish being the most popular build. The timber of choice was Australian grown Paulownia from the Coffs Harbor region, it`s an excellent material for board making with interesting grain patterns and very easy to work with.”
” The Workshops will become regular events throughout the year and I will continue running them now that Rich has past on his techniques about this system.”
” I have had a lot of interest about this program from local schools that would like to add the program into their school curriculum, so I am tailoring the program to suit the kids ability and hope to have it up and running soon.”

Hollow Wooden Surfboards
Kelly Slater has rolled in to the Gold Coast in time for the season opening Quiksilver Pro at Snapper. After a few days of surfing attracting headlines for the wrong reasons, it’s awesome to see the Greatest Of All Time kicking it with the kids on the beach, signing plenty of autographs, and lighting up an otherwise dreary day at Duranbah.
